India is having largest
livestock population including buffaloes, sheep & goats, pigs, and poultry,
which are generally used to produce meat products. The beef sector is a
significant contributor to the country’s food industry and is driven by a
growing demand for beef products, particularly in developing countries where
populations and income levels are rising. Top beef consumers include the United
States, Brazil, China, the European Union, India, Argentina, Mexico, Russia,
Japan, the United Kingdom, and Canada.
Among these countries, Brazil, Australia, the U.S., India, and the New Zealand are the biggest producers and exporters of beef and beef products. India is the largest producer of buffalo meat. Other major beef producing countries include Mexico, Canada, Russia, South Africa, and the European Union. The same production levels can vary from year to year due to factors such as weather conditions, disease outbreaks, and government policies.

largest beef-producing and exporting countries. In 2023, it stood at the top
position in world’s largest beef exporter countries list, shipping 10,936
million USD worth of beef products to the global countries. Brazil is followed
by Australia, and the United States.
The United States is expected
to be the top producer of beef in the world in 2024, even with a reduced
inventory of beef cows. In 2002, the
U.S. exported beef products worth USD 5,798 million, that declined to USD 5,195

to USD 816 million in Q3 of 2023, as compared to USD 695 million in Q3 of 2022.
