Based on Vietnam import data, Vietnam’s top 10 imports in 2019 were Electrical Machinery & Equipment (30.6%), Machinery (9.2%), Plastics & Articles (6.2%), Mineral Fuels & Oils (6.1%), Iron & Steel (4.4%), Optical, Photographic, Medical Equipment (3.5%), Vehicles (2.5%), Knitted or Crocheted Fabrics (2.1%), Cotton (1.7%) and Articles of Iron & Steel (1.6%).
According to Vietnam import statistics, Vietnam’s top 10 import commodities accounted for 67.9% to overall value of shipments recorded in 2019. Imported vehicles represent the fastest grower among the top 10 import categories, up by 52.2% from 2018 to 2019. Mineral fuels-related products made that category the laggard among the top 10 Vietnamese import category, posting a -25.6% drop. As per Vietnam customs data, Vietnam’s top 10 import partners in 2019 were China (USD 75.5 billion), South Korea (USD 46.9 billion), Japan (USD 19.5 billion), Taipei, Chinese (USD 15.1 billion), United States (USD 14.3 billion), Thailand (USD 11.6 billion), Malaysia (USD 7.2 billion), Indonesia (USD 5.7 billion), India (USD 4.5 billion) and Australia (USD 4.4 billion).
Based on Vietnam import data, Vietnam’s top 10 import partners accounted for 81.1% to overall value of shipments in 2019. According to Vietnam trade statistics, region-wise, Vietnam imported about 80% of products from fellow Asian countries. Another 7.3% was imported from trade partners in Europe with 6.2% coming from North America. Smaller percentages originated from Latin America (2.3%), Oceania (1.8%) and Africa (1.3%).
