In a historic moment for Vietnam-China bilateral trade, Vietnam has shipped its first ever shipment of milk to China in October 2019. The agreement between two countries was signed in April this year. According to Vietnam export data, the country supplied dairy products worth US$ 171 million to the world countries in 2018. Vietnam Exports Milk to China for Very First Time


Vietnam has exported its first shipment of milk to China, the second largest dairy market in the world. It was announced in a ceremony in Hanoi between Chinese Customs and the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) on 22nd October 2019. The TH Milk joint stock company has become the first Vietnamese exporter who received approval of supplying dairy products to China. The deal was signed in April this year. Other milk suppliers in Vietnam including Moc Chau Milk, Vinamilk, Hanoimilk and Nutifood are awaiting similar approval. 


China, with a population of more than 1.4 billion has a huge demand for milk and milk products. In fact, China has the highest milk consumption in the world, with a total value of $60 billion, but domestic supply only meets 75% of demand.


Under the agreement, China will allow Vietnamese milk products including sterilized milk, pasteurized milk, fermented milk, prepared milk, cheese & processed cheese, cream, condensed milk, milk powder, whey powder, whey protein powder, casein, milk mineral salt, milk-based infant formula and premix.


Since 2015, TH Group has been participating in Vietnam-China trade promotion fairs, forums and exhibitions and exported yoghurt products to China. In 2017, the company set up a business in Guangzhou city to distribute the commodities.


 Vietnam Exports Dairy Products to the World


Vietnam’s dairy output increased 6.9% to 936,000 tons last year, and is set to rise to one million tons next year and two million tons by 2030, according market research reports. It exports dairy products to 46 markets with 70% going to the Middle East. As per Vietnam trade statistics of milk, the country supplied dairy products worth US$ 171 million to the global countries in 2018. As per Vietnam Trades market research report and data, Vietnam exported dairy products the most to Iraq, which shared 38.5%, value to total exports in 2018. In second place, United States stood as the largest export destination of Vietnamese dairy products with 34.6% share in value.
