Turkish Imports Down in April – Turkey Import Data Jan-Apr 2020

Turkey’s imports declined in April 2020 as compared to the same month previous year. According to Turkey import data, the value of shipments entered into the country recorded USD 13,553 million in April 2020, while USD 17,303 million in April 2019. The main factor of this decline was coronavirus, which led the government to implement lockdown. Covid-19 has spread in many countries all over the world and millions are now infected and several people have dead. Coronavirus, which originated from China’s Wuhan city pulled countries to restrict supply goods to Turkey. So, due to supply chains, the business of Turkish importers has affected and as a result, value of imports declined in April.


Turkey’s Imports in Jan-Apr 2020


As per Turkey import statistics, Turkish imports rose in Jan 2020 and decrease in February. After registering a slight increase in the value of imported commodities in March, the figures fell sharply in April due to impact of coronavirus. As compared to same months of 2019, Turkey’s imports rose in Jan, Feb & Mar 2020, but dropped drastically in April month. Turkey’s Imports in Jan-Apr 2019


According to Turkey customs data, Turkey purchased goods worth USD 15,440 million in Jan 2019, and similar value recorded in February month as well. Turkey’s Top 10 Imports 2020


Turkey purchased mineral fuels & oils the most in Jan, Feb & Mar 2020, however this import category stood at second position in April this year. The country imported machinery the most in April 2020. Here is the list of Turkish top 10 import commodities in first four months of 2020.

Turkey’s Top 10 Import Partners Jan-Apr 2020


China was Turkey’s largest import source in April 2020, however in March, it was Germany. And in Feb and Jan 2020, Russia was the top import partner of Turkey. As per Turkey shipment data, Turkey’s main import partners are China, Germany, Russia, United States and South Korea. Undoubtedly, Turkey will see a lower economic growth like other countries who are affected by the deadly coronavirus. The local demand of goods has risen substantially due to Covid-19 infections and the virus impact on international trade has made situation more complicated.
