Turkey’s imports valued US$ 200.6 million in 2019, which declined as compared to the previous year. However, December recorded a jump of about 7% from a month earlier. Purchases of intermediate goods, which accounted for 75.4% of total imports, increased 17.5%. Capital goods and consumption goods also saw a rise of about 7.3% and 11.5% respectively. According to Turkey import data, the country imported mineral fuels & oils, machinery, electronics, iron & steel, pearls and precious stones and plastics the most in 2019 at 2-digit level HS Code.


From month-wise perspective, Turkey saw a rise in value of imports in January, February, March, April, May, June and July 2019. All these months recorded import value of USD 15 million or above. After registering a sharp decline in the value of imports in August; later months of year recorded a rise in value of shipments which entered into the country. Turkey’s main import commodities at 2-digit level HS Code are mineral fuels & oils (20.52%), machinery, mechanical appliances, etc. (10.73%), electrical machinery & equipment (7.47%), iron & steel (7.32%), pearls & precious stones (6.63%), plastics (5.8%), vehicles (4.8%), organic chemicals (2.71%), pharmaceutical products (2.37%) and optical, photographic, medical equipment, etc. (2.18%).
