Philippines Suspends Poultry Products from Brazil on Covid-19 Worries


The Philippines has suspended poultry products from Brazil amid coronavirus outbreak. Brazil has the world’s third-worst coronavirus pandemic, reporting over 4.6 million cases since the start of the virus. The Filipino Department of Agriculture did not stipulate how long the ban would be enforced. Brazil currently accounts for nearly 20% of the country’s poultry meat imports.

The Philippines has also banned poultry products from Australia as well due to bird flu outbreak. The country has temporarily restricted imports of domestic and wild birds and their products from Australia after the presence of the highly pathogenic H7N7 avian flu virus was detected at an egg farm. Australia accounts for about 1% of the Philippines’ poultry imports.
